Two weeks seemed to pass in almost an instant. I finished the three contract research jobs I’d started a few months prior and spent several days in a flurry of shopping, trying to find the kind of clothing I’d seen the receptionist Lauren wearing: expensive-looking, fashionable. I didn’t sleep well that night--I was thinking too much about him and what my first day might bring. When the following morning finally rolled around, I jumped out of bed and dressed carefully.
